Maracas, or rumba rattles as they are also known, belong to the group of percussion instruments and consist of a hollow body filled with plant seeds, shot or pebbles and a handle. This hollow body originally consisted of dried gourds; today wood, leather or plastics are used.
application in music
Maracas are played in pairs, shaking them rhythmically so that the typical crackling sound is created. For rattles with different timbres, the lower-sounding one is played with the right hand and the higher-pitched one with the left hand.
Maracas are used particularly in Latin American styles of music (e.g. samba, rumba or bossa nova), but they are also suitable as toy instruments and for making music in the classroom. Shake eggs or chicken shakes have similar properties to maracas, but do not have a handle.
The children develop a sense of rhythm and rhythm when shaking the eggs. You can use it to accompany well-known songs and explore the instrument independently.
