The Caxixi is a Brazilian rattle.
It is braided from raffia and filled with stones. The bottom of the caxixi is made from a pumpkin slice. When playing, the Caxixi is swung up and down. The sound varies - depending on whether the pebbles hit the soft raffia or the hard ground. This allows you to play soft as well as sharp tones.
By combining caxixis of different sizes, more complex rhythms are also possible. Since the instruments are handmade, size deviations are possible.
